That is why we believe in using the 5 Step Maths Method to teach Maths to students in Years 3 -6. It is a progressive approach to teaching Mathematics concepts that recognises a child’s strengths and builds upon them.
The method develops and extends a child’s grasp of Maths by applying proven techniques to achieve positive outcomes for both students and parents.

My Story ....
When my older daughter started school, she struggled with Maths. I had no clue on how to assist her other than resort to the methods my teachers had used when teaching me. Instead of being a positive, enjoyable, collaborative experience, homework was something we ‘had to do’ and a source of anxiety for us both.
As much as I wanted to help her learn, I frequently became frustrated or impatient as we struggled to stay engaged, positive and on task. Emotions would run high, homework was a chore and this was clearly reflected by her grades.
I wanted to find a solution but I didn't know what. Not surprisingly, we began to focus on things that she did do well such as reading and writing and avoided Maths.
Her well meaning teachers assured me that she would improve as she progressed through primary school but this proved not to be the case.
Finally, I took a major step; I decided to switch careers and become a teacher.
Having a child that struggled in Maths, I could empathise with my pupils and crafted my skills to teach children in a way that supported and extended their learning.
In the process I’ve developed a unique 5 Step Method of approaching and teaching Maths which has not only transformed and improved my pupils’ learning but made teaching affirming, positive and enjoyable.
My second child, who had no natural affinity with Maths, was a key beneficiary of this program. The breaking down of sums into a series of manageable tasks made it easier for her to understand how numbers worked. And by keeping Maths sessions short and sweet rather than onerous and laborious, by the end of primary school she was actually excelling in Maths- her least favourite subject! I have continued to successfully use the 5 Step Method with all of the pupils I teach and tutor and every success story brightens my day!
By packaging my skills of teaching primary school-aged students, my knowledge of how children learn, and identifying common maths misconceptions, has enabled me to create a course that provides incredible results.
